Since the 1600s, the O’Malley family has distilled small pot private label spirits, originally known as Poitin. There are many traditions associated with Spirit making in Ireland; It is a prestigious tradition of families to lay down a cask upon the birth of a male heir.

The Glen Keen Estate is the home of Bronze Age High Kings, Gaelic Lords, Irish Chieftains, and the ancestral territory of Pirate Queen Grace O’Malley who ruled the Western coast during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. The O’Malley’s, ancestors of the present owners occupied the lands since the 1600s. In the early 1900s The O’Grady’s who moved to this area after the battle of Aughrim, Co.Wicklow, Ireland in 1690 married into the O’Malley family further strengthening positions and holdings of land, a merging of two great Irish families, enhancing the gateway to commerce and trade for the area.
The land was chosen for its life spring and poetic landscape, conveying harmony, strength and wisdom.

The rich history of the family and this estate is still visible throughout the grounds where the ancient forts of Glen Keen’s three Bronze Age Kings still exist today.  
Current heiress of the Estate is Catherine O’Grady, she is married to Jim Powers, they are now the 8th generation of owners of the Estate.
